In 2002, with "Chiese di sera...e altri luoghi" (Churches in the evening… and other places), the Associazione Sant'Apollonia, committed to the safeguarding and valorisation of the historical.-artistic of the Patriarcato di Venezia, reaffirms the need to supply the necessary tools for that cultural mediation that enables the appreciation of Venetian artistic masterpieces in their functional context, that is, for the churches for which they were created.

The programme suggests the historical-artistic and iconographic reappraisal of the works. The choice of opening the churches mostly in the evening was proposed to favour the participation of Venetian city folk, who don’t normally get the chance to visit these places in other times, as well as to offer these encounters in a different atmosphere, meant to demonstrate that churches can be used in different times and ways, as long as their primary cultural destination is safeguarded and respected.

Some visits, among which those to the Basilica di San Marco, are made possible by the researches of the iconography group of the Studium Cattolico Veneziano. During  visits extraordinary lighting is guaranteed for the buildings and the works.
