Bra: nature, art and cuisine
Bra, with a constantly growing population of over 27.700, is the third demographically biggest Municipality of the Province of Cuneo, of which geographically it is the barycentre, although it lies less than fifty kilometres from Turin. One of the most famous centres of Piedmont's Baroque, where the main artists of the times were able to construct a whole of works of considerable cultural and religious importance. Bra is, because of its location at the centre of the «foodvalleys» of Langa and Roero, one of the most important centres for Piedmont's wine and food culture. In fact, precisely at Bra, the movement Slow Food, now famous throughout the world, was started. On the summit of the highest Bra hill, Monteguglielmo, there is the peculiar octagonal construction of the Zizzola. Because of its size and its visibility from any point of the city, it has become the symbol of Bra. It is a two storey building surmounted by a small turret and it was built in 1840 as «villa of the delights». Zizzola's park hosts musical reviews and events organised by the Municipal Administration. Owing to its lighting the Municipality of Bra obtained the Illumillenium 2000 prize. The museum offer of the City of Bra is made up of two structures: Natural History Museum «Ettore e Federico Craveri» and the Historical-Archaeological Museum of "Palazzo Traversa". Both structures can be found in the town centre of Bra and they are, every year, the destination for many visitors. In particular, to be noted is the sub-Saharan art collection of the Craveri Museum as well as the important naturalistic evidence of the halls dedicated to the territory, and the archaeological findings of Roman era found during the excavations in Pollenzo kept in the Traversa Museum. The latter structure is in a patrician house with embattled towers which is a characteristic element in the architectonic structure of the Bra historical centre.
