The 23rd of May 1863, in the very central avenue "Corsia del Giardino", which later became Via Manzoni, the Albergo Milano was conceived. Years later, it would become the Grand Hotel de Milan, prestigious "five star hotel" , a preferred destination of an International clientele which counts among its guests crowned heads, politicians, exponents of high finance, personalities belonging to the world of culture, fashion and show-business.
Some distinguished guests who have stayed there in the past, have had some of the suites dedicated to them. There you can admire documents and pictures that bear witness to their passing, among whom: musicians and Giacomo Puccini, poet Gabriele D'Annunzio, actress Eleonora Duse, the Dukes of Windsor, the opera singer Maria Callas.
Rooms and suites are furnished with refined elegance and skilfully restored valuable furniture, the wide bathrooms have been restored with precious Italian marble, the floors are in parquet.
Two restaurants are available; "Caruso", luminously overlooking the small Croce Rossa square. It is suitable for quick midday lunches; the other, "Don Carlos" intimate, with suffused lights, walls decorated with paintings, prints, playbills and photographs of the Museum of the Teatro della Scala, is ideal for evening encounters and remains open after theatre closing time.
The sumptuous lounges of the Grand Hotel et de Milan are arranged to welcome receptions, cocktails, meetings, conferences, exhibition shows; there are three types of Lounges outfitted with modern equipment and with various capacities.
The atmosphere you breath in at the "Milan" , as it is affectionately referred to by the Milanese, is of times past. Courtesy and an impeccable service place it among the "great" Hotels of Europe.
