Parma ham is a hit

Despite the International crisis and the slowdown of economy, appreciation by foreign consumers of Parma ham, which in October 2001 registered record increases, is unwavering.

35% more in exports, compared to the same month in 2000, towards the US; 71% more in Canada, whereas sales went up 3% in Japan.

"We knew there wasn't going to be a breakdown " Sergio Fanti, director of the Consorzio del Prosciutto di Parma, said "but the crisis that touched the food and restaurant sector certainly didn't make us hope for such a decisive increase in our exports ".

The United States themselves remain the greatest Parma ham lovers; the total volume of exported pieces was of 221.000, with a consolidation of growth in the first ten months of the year (+ 18%).

The same situation in Canada, where in contrast to  amore limited volume there was an exponential growth, with a partial of +71% just in October and a balance form the beginning of the year that marked +19%.

In Japan on the other hand 10 thousand Parma Hams arrived, despite the heavy financial crisis that is investing the middle-high classes of the country.
