Summer is still here, we can still think only of resting, fun, refreshing swims in the crystalline waters or long walks in refrigerating woods, fish grills on the seafront or polenta and mushrooms in a mountain inn.Basically, it’s holiday! However, where do Italians go on holiday?
According to a research conducted by Cirm for Federalberghi, Italy has come back into big fashion among Italians. In fact, 72% of the surveyed states that they choose their peninsula whereas 17% (against 18% last year) prefers to go abroad.
The survey was conducted on a sample of 856 families representing over 47 million Italians 18 years or above. What emerges is that the greatest preferences go to seaside locations, as only 17% choose mountain ones; the traditional month is still August - also because factories and offices close -, according to estimates in that period 13 million 52 thousand people go on holiday.
In July about 6 million 600 thousand Italians took off, in September 4 million 300 thousand are on holiday, in June 2 million 81 thousand have enjoyed their vacations.
Southern regions are the chosen destination by 29%, then the North-Eastern ones with 22%, following the islands with 21% whereas the centre and the west hang around 14%.
As far as the choice of where to stay is concerned, the greatest part chooses the hotel, the percentage of those who rent a house is increasing, whereas property apartments decrease; no variations for tourist villages, residences or campsites.
