Nicoletta De Ponti from Treviglio (Bergamo) is one of the most famous and trendiest DJs in Italy. Four times she won the Telegatto as best radio conductor of the year. You can hear her every day on RTL from five to seven in the evening.
She could hold herself as a diva, as radio diva in fact, but it is not so. She is a down to earth woman, with a smile on her face and a marked sense of irony. How did you become a DJ?
"By chance in 1976. I was very young and I worked with the almost neighbourhood newsletter of the little town where I lived. One day they sent me off to do a service for the local radio and the next day I was live. It was fantastic!".
Women DJ have become many in the past few years, some say they work best, that it is their moment, would you agree?
"They have certainly increased compared to two, three years ago but I find them too similar among them in the vocal timbre, in the language, in their attitude. There are certainly some good speakers but I find them homologated, without personality. You can hear they have been following those that have been doing radio for many years ".
Are you saying you feel imitated?
"Saying it is not nice, but....".
What language do you use when you go on air?
"Definitely simple, direct. I don’t read a dictionary before I go on to the show or before I go to bed".
The words you use most?
"They tell me I often repeat pleasant and also serene and serenity ".
Give me an example
"Good morning I hope you are feeling in shape and serene today ".
Is serenity important for you?
"Essential".
In your "Password" show, as well as transmitting music you have guests.
Who did you find pleasant, just to use one of your favourite words, and who unbearable?
"I loved Dario Fo, a Nobel prize who will not be called professor but simply Dario ".
"I don’t like and I didn’t like Massimo Lopez, so acquiescent to his manager who is even his brother. No, I didn’t like him at all ".
How does it feel to have won four Telegatti as best conductor of the year?
"I have never taken myself too seriously even though I am glad I have been voted by people who listen to me, whom I keep company to ".
Is the DJ world still masculine and male chauvinist?
"It is still a male chauvinist world if we speak of programmes which are strictly musical, specialist".
Are women better or are men?
"The best ones are those who are themselves, whether men or women ".
