The past 15th January Roberto Vecchioni presented his new album called "Il lanciatore di coltelli" from which the single "Figlio, Figlio, Figlio" was taken, airing on the radio for the past two weeks, poignantly giving homage to Fabrizio de Andrč's "Ottocento".The album's title plays upon an allegory between knives and human expressions which, if used with the same ability of the knife throwers, can clip the contours of the real highlighting passions, hatreds and feelings surrounding everyday life.
The album is divided in two types of songs: the first are public and in third person, the second type are intimate, personal. The single "Figlio,Figlio,Figlio" (Son, son, son) belongs to the former, dedicated to a modern, western and middle-class generation, which tackles the father-son relationship in times such as these, where the despair, the anguish and the impotence of fathers unites with the uncertainty of raising children.
In this first part Vecchioni speaks of real things present and eternal always renouncing historical-mythological masturbations, he tries to take sides dealing from schizophrenia to the divine of the allegorical fable, such as the "Wizard of Oz", or the tragedy of war. The second kind is mad eup of more traditional songs such as "Malinconia leggera", "La mia stanza", "Viola d'inverno" which deal with more intimate and reflective subjects, with an eye to transcendence and the other to those bonds and feelings that are the true treasure of earthly life.
"In between, or before or after, there are the two throwers: "history and legend", a development on the topic and the "Other knife thrower" a close relative of the "Il bandolero stanco", perhaps even more uncaring and bitter, so much so as to lie down and look at the sky without moving a muscle. But could it not be the approach of predators who fake immobility to strike by surprise?"
The album will take the artist in a n Italian tour. Below some of the dates.
