20 January 2002 - Sanremo: Sanremo, here are the "big"

Here it is, this year as well, the names of the artists who will take part in the 52nd SanRemo Festival, an Italian song review which sees the return of Pippo Baudo as  host after Fazio's adventurous explorations and last year's drastic restoration.

The number of songs, based on the decision of the commission chaired by Baudo himself, has gone from 16 to 20 (plus the sixteen of the "young" selected in November): this anticipates delays in the various news slots as it normally happens when the "National Pippo" steals the show in the song contest.

In the end, though, it is just as well, nobody can dress in those robes better, keeping the Festival as a meeting point for all Italians, each in his own way. Among the names well known faces stand out as well young ones that came out of last year's contest or who have made a name for themselves in these past few years, like Alexia, who has obtained important results in the charts.

There will be Gino Paoli, perhaps the most important author of Italian light music, Patty Pravo, who will sing a Zucchero song, Loredana Berté, who seems to have undergone a strict slimming diet, and for the first time Luisa Corna, a television soubrette with undisputed vocal capacities as well as unrepressed attractiveness, who will sing a duet with Fausto Leali.

Basically there is some for every taste, including Gazosa, winners of the past edition in the young section, Francesco Renga, who had conquered a critics prize in the young section, and Gianluca Grignani, taking part for the second time.

Below, in alphabetical order, the list of participants with their song:
