Professor Francesco Sicilia, General Manager of the Italian Ministry for Arts and Culture, has announced our government’s intention of developing a permanent section of Italian books in the Argentine bookstore market, with the aim to reinforce the current knowledge of Italian literature in today’s Argentina."We do not want to create an Italian bookstore in the Argentine market, because this would mean opening a wound!" And he continued: "We want our literature to have a permanent presence in the Argentine bookstores ".
Francesco Sicilia has been working on the circulation of our culture in the world and the promotion of the cultural plan of our country over a long time for 12 years. All our governments, independently from the political “colour”, respect his projects.
Among the cultural Italy-Argentina interchanges, Professor Sicilia has planned the arrival into Argentina of an Itinerant Italian Exhibition that will visit all Italian Culture Institutes around the world.
Currently there are 114, of which there are two in Argentina, one in Buenos Aires and another in Cordoba, all three directed by Miriam Levi Liuzzi.
Professor Sicilia’s endeavour is to boost the promotion of Italian literature inside a wider Argentine cultural program that that would cultivate the good reading habit from childhood. "The suitcase that travels with you", is the name of the initiative that will distribute small suitcases containing 40 classic books destined mostly to children aged 5 to 10.
