Giovanni Trapattoni
He is THE Italian coach. "Trap", as everyone calls him in Italy, was born into football. He starts kicking the ball when he's little and soon arrives in the Serie A. In his footballer career the highlights, as well as the extraordinary victories conquered with the red and black shirt (A.C. Milan), the tough but fair duels with legendary Pelè. In Milan he is a defender, from 1953 to 1971, winning practically everything: two "scudetti" (1962 and 1968), a Coppa Italia (1967), two Coppe dei Campioni (1963 and 1969) and a Coppa delle Coppe (1968).After finishing his football career in the Varese team, he chose to follow that of the football coach. Straight away, he gets entrusted with prestigious teams: Milan itself, Juventus, Inter, Bayern Monaco - after a brief parenthesis at Cagliari - and Fiorentina. Trophies pour, especially with the Piedmontese club: eight scudetti (six with Juventus, one with Inter and Bayern), a Coppa dei Campioni with Juventus, an Intercontinental, with the same Torino based club and three Coppe Uefa (two with Juve and one with Inter). The exceptional portfolio is completed with a European Supercup, an Italian league Supercup, two Coppe Italia and one Germany one. In Germany he becomes extremely popular (to his regret) for his eccentric German, which makes him one of the most captivating faces in sport. His "mosaicising" language becomes a true world of its own in Italy as well. Then, the 6th of July 2000, the Lombard trainer, admired and father of two, receives a prestigious job: that of manager trainer of the National team, substituting the resigning Zoff. The 3rd of September 2000, in Budapest, the debut on the National bench in Hungary - Italy, a game valid for the qualifying round of this year's World Cup, which ended 2-2.
