Gabicce is one of the coast towns most famous in the Marche region and of the whole Adriatic Riviera. North of Pesaro the "Hill Riviera" unfolds, 40 km of beaches surrounded by green hills which slowly descend to the sea, with sudden drops strongly characterised by full wilderness.Long and narrow little beaches are here and there interrupted by a promontory, the outlet of a river, a small creek. Gabicce gives the physical sense of something new.
The sea, the soft indenting of the beach expanding the Romagna gulf, the promontory of Gabicce Monte and, in the rocky ravines, brief beaches on mirrors of sea with deep bottoms for underwater fishing ,the small tourist harbour in nearby Vallugola; thus, in a succession, in the fast unrolling of a few kilometres.
Gabicce divides in two; Gabicce Mare North, laid out on a small gulf and Gabicce Monte, grasping onto a panoramic rock immersed in green.
Gabicce was an important fishing and crafts centre. Mostly dedicated to clam fishing, seamen of Gabicce managed to build themselves a 'squero': a work yard where they started to build strong boats, managing to supply themselves with a small fleet for sardine and mackerels.
Beginning in the thirties the phenomenon of mass tourism starts to expand, which, as for other places on the coast, will have its true and proper boom in the sixties. However, contrarily to other places, Gabicce will be able to keep its double identity without becoming a "tourist factory" and keeping its historical roots even in the town planning.
Despite this attention to the keeping of its culture and the environment, has become one of the favourite destinations of young tourism, owing to its beaches and the clubs that rise in the area and which every week attract thousands of people.
