The first projections of the flow of tourists for the new summer season on the Emilia Romagna Riviera confirm the expected success and international vocation of this part of Italy. We just have to look at the spring figures to realise that the 2001 season could be a record one; up to a few years ago the months of March and April were considered of low tourism flow. This year on the other hand there was a small boom; arrivals and bookings from European countries are increasing, and they are as always led by fond Germany. The phenomenon of cycling tourism: in the first months of 2001 there have been at least seven thousand more tourists that have chosen pedals to visit the Riviera, especially from Switzerland and Austria.
The chairman of the Regional Apt Lanfranco Morri said that the figures arriving from the most important German travel agencies confirm a strong wish for Emilia-Romagna, also attracted by new initiatives, such as that of the ecological hotels.
An increase of around 2,5% for Italian tourists is expected for the peak summer months, whereas foreigners will increase of about 4% (source Trademark Italia). Not only the regional Apts or hotel manager's efforts pay off; the international situation also is in favour of the Italian coasts. With such a strong dollar Italy attracts ever increasing volumes of international tourism.
