Environment safeguarding, the implementing of few but precise rules for the respect of nature, care to avoid useless waste in electric energy and water consumption, are all signs that indicate a willingness from human kind to improve their lives. The hotel world is also taking big steps in this direction: in France, Austria, Scandinavia, Greece, Great Britain and in many other countries measures have been taken towards it.
A recent Legambiente initiative awards a plaque, depicting a swan on a blue wave, bearing clear letters stating "Hotel recommended for its commitment in safeguarding the environment". The greatest number of plaques received were by hotels in the areas between Riccione, Bellaria, Igea Marina, Cervia, Ravenna, the Conero Riviera and the Bolognese Apennine.
Other regions are working on it: Sardegna, Liguria, the Gargano coast in Puglia, legendary Versilia.
To allow the hotels to take part in this important selection, a handbook has been prepared to which they must adhere to conscientiously. The items concern: waste disposal, water, electric power, power supply, gastronomy, transport, transfers, noise, cultural heritage and guests.
Therefore, to produce less waste, reduce water consumption, save and recuperate electric energy, use of healthy foods, valorisation of local gastronomy and the specialities tied in with the territory, encourage collective use of private and public transport, diffusion of less polluting means of transport such as bicycles, contain noises inside the hotel and in the nearby areas, study tourist proposals and naturalistic trails in order to place more value on the cultural and environmental importance of the area, involving tourists in the putting into practice of the handbook.
Posters are placed to explain to customers which commitments the hotel has made to respect and safeguard the environment.
