This project was designed to integrate at their best aspects of architectonic and environmental nature with those of appropriate logistics and with the most sophisticated technological fittings.

The new Rimini fair, North of the city and adjoining the fabric of the city, was created on the basis of a project by the studio Von Gerkan and Marg of Hamburg, which is already using the significant experience acquired in the design of important European fair structures, from Lipsia to Hannover, from Dusseldorf to Hessen.

During the opening on the 28th of April Lorenzo Cagnoni, chairman of Rimini Fiera, has emphasised the significance of this first stage of life of the new fair quarters, that will be made official the 28th September, with the presence of Romano Prodi, President of the European Community.

"A great architect has confirmed to me what we wanted to achieve from an architectonic point of view: a great homage to Italian architecture, in this case carried out by a German professional".

During the opening ceremony Architect Volkwin Marg, designer of the new fair, emphasised the architectonic message at the root of the project, meant to connect the " past to the future, with references to antique architecture and with a dedication to the culture of this region and of this country, which has survived all the ages. It is an architecture oriented towards an ecological future that distinguishes the greatest and most modern European wood covered building, a portrait of beauty, technology and respect for the environment".

True enthusiasm from the President of the Regione Emilia Romagna, Vasco Errani: "..an extraordinary opportunity that opens up for the whole territory, with a quality fair, beautiful and European. It will highlight many excellencies and it will be the heart of the city for the development of international relations [...] We are the only ones in Italy to have started a serious privatisation project, capable of attracting investments on our fair system".
