The cruiser, accompanied by the Destroyer Espero, crossed the Indian and the Pacific Ocean to reach Shanghai and Nagasaki, with a division of disembarking troops of Battalion San Marco, destined to the protection of the Italian Concession in China during the Chino-Japanese.

The two ships also took part in the main battles of the Mediterranean during the Second World War: in the tragic drowning of the two units even the captains lost their lives, decorated with the Gold Medal for Military Valour to their Memory.

The site means to retrace the stages of this journey, through period images, ancient maps, drawings and tales: a direct way to talk of history and geography, without celebration intents. Divided in stages, it permits the visit very time of different places, with today’s eyes and the evidence of the time.

A section is dedicated to the Regia Marina –the Italian Navy during World War II -  and its defeat during the clash with the British Navy in the Battle of the Mediterranean.
