In times of war, it is well known, there are always those who make a profit. They are definitely “fat cows” times for weapon manufacturers. What is the Italian situation?Lombardia is the top region by all means. On 338 National companies that are active in the sector, with peaks of International excellence, 48% is based in Lombardia, and in great majority int he prvince of Brescia (41%).
Behind Lombardia, with 161 companies, arrive Emilia-Romagna with 33 companies, Marche and Piemonte, with 16 companies each and Tuscany, with 15 companies.
Among the capital towns there is no history; Brescia is first with certainty with 139 companies and leaves Milan behind with just eight companies.
The "map" of the sector photographs Italy; if in the North companies are specialised in industrial military productions that are competitive on the international market, the South concentrates on the production of explosives and gunpowder directed especially to the National market. Here it is Campania that has, owing to the tradition of the “crackers” the greatest number of companies, with 96 plants.
A look at the distribution market; retail shops for weapons and ammunitions, including those tied in with the sale of hunting and fishing items, they are 1.320 in the whole of Italy. In this segment it is Tuscany that guides the chart with a 15% share (197 retailers), followed by Lombardia and Campania.
