You say truffle and think of the Langhe, but the precious tubers do not just grow between Asti and Alba. The Tuscany-Emilia Apennine is another of those places blessed by nature where truffles can be found, eaten and are even a little less expensive. Until the 18th of November the Bolognese Apennine offers a "Tartufesta", a true truffle fair involving over twenty municipalities in the Apennines.Starting in Lizzano in Belvedere the itinerating fair will bring to each town a thematic menu (with special price) based on truffles, and, contemporarily, different festivals for woods products valorisation. For information on the programme call +39 051/218545.
The Bolognese are so proud of their truffle that they are launching the "Tartufo bianco pregiato dei colli bolognesi" (Prized white truffle from the Bologna hills) label. From Lizzano the fair will move along the municipalities of Castiglione dei pepoli, Porretta Terme, Pianoro, San Benedetto val di Sambro and many more.
To convince the more quarrelsome some details on the truffle production on the Apennines; in the sole province of Bologna there are 70 truffle-grounds, for a total of 350 hectares, which create a considerable financial inducing, so much so that in Munich a shop was recently opened that sells only Bolognese truffles.
