Models, memories and metamorphosis of an invention. At the Leonardian museum, in Vinci, from the 23rd of June to the 23 September the exhibition dedicated to Leonardo's invention of the depiction of the legend of Leda. The exhibition is organised by the Municipality of Vinci curated by Gigetta dalli Regoli, chair of Art History at the Pisa University, Romano Nanni, director of the Library and the Leonardian Museum in Vinci, and Antonio Natali, director of the department of Renaissance and Mannerism painting of the Uffizi Gallery.
Divided in four different sections, the exhibition concerns the relationship with the depictions dedicated to the theme of Leda in classic antiquity; the motivations of the inventions and Leonardian choices, as well as the differences between the two Vinci editions (Leda kneeling and Leda standing); finally the alternative solutions compared to those proposed by Leonardo, with particular reference to the Michalngelo version.
There will therefore be an exhibit of painting works, as well as scuplture and graphics, from the antiquity to the XVI century, on loan from the most important Italian and foreign museum institutes.
The exposition path will unfold from the illustrious Timotheos' Leda of the Capitolini Museums to the renowned derivations from the Leonardian invention for the standing Leda of the Uffizi and the Borghese Galleries, to finish with the important Michelangelo school of the lying Leda overlooked by the swan, documented by the version attributed to the Rosso Fiorentino of the London National Gallery and by the magnificent marble of Bartolomeo Ammannati of the Bargello.
