In Ferrara, at the Palazzo dei Diamanti, the first Italian exhibition dedicated to Sisley is held, a homage to the great interpreter of French impressionism. «Alfred Sisley. Poeta dell'impressionismo» tells of his love for nature, the sense of light and atmosphere, the airiness with which Sisley's painting could interpret the essence of impressionism. As Eugène Murer said, Alfred Sisley possessed «the soul and the paintbrush of a poet». His is a painting of clear and luminous colours, of delicate strokes, aimed to capture the effects of the light and the atmosphere in the airy landscapes of the Ile de France, capable of expressing the pure essence of the impressionist movement, to the original principles of which Sisley remained loyal for his whole life.
There are seven chronological-topical sections which scan his art's evolution, which is dedicated to the landscape, and they shed light on the sources of his inspiration: from the history of Sisley's relations with the other impressionists, to the relations of his art with the French landscapist tradition, as well as the English one. Of the latter, his association with his teacher Constable, to whom Sisley, perhaps because of his English roots, is particularly close to.
