A policy of "Italianness"
Definitely a difficult beginning for Mirko Tremaglia, the first of the Republic's ministers to be the leader of the ministry for Italians in the World, a baptism marked by the tragic events of the 11th of September. An International situation which, for the minister, makes still more urgent the creation of new and more efficient contacts between the motherland and Italians that have emigrated all over the world. Before taking part in the commemoration ceremonies of the World Trade Center victims, among which there were many of Italian origin, Tremaglia had participated at a convention of the "Dante Alighieri", (the better known and oldest Italian cultural association in the world with over 400 branches) dedicated to the language and languages of Italian art. "We must be able to have a policy of "Italianness"" -Tremaglia said- "without forgetting that the communities of Italians abroad represent an important voice in the trading scales. There are millions of fellow nationals abroad that drink, eat and buy Italian". October.2001 The Florentine Committee Dante Alighieri abroad Farnesina
