The activities of the Foundation focus each year on different objectives, but they are linked by some unavoidable priorities: direct support for Scala shows; the search for contributions to the Theatre by Italian and foreign companies; support to training programmes to Theatre artists and personnel; setting up, financing and co-ordination of Special Projects; production of information documents.

Supporters have the possibility of being at rehearsals and meeting the main Scala artistes. It is also owing to their support that funds necessary to support new productions are available, and this year they include "Il Trovatore", "Un Ballo in maschera" and"Turandot".

The Foundation offers a decisive training support, through the allocation of grants for the Singing Academy, the School of Ballet, the newly born Perfecting Academy for Orchestra Professors, the White Voice Choir and other courses.

Among the Special Projects of 2001 there is the creation of a textual and photographic archive on computerised base, which will gather the invaluable legacy of arts and cultural values of the Teatro alla Scala, thus creating a rich tool for the diffusion of Italian culture in the world. In this project ("Progetto D.A.M. for computer and organisation rearrangement of the Stores, Archives and Depositories") the "Progetto di Salvataggio dell'Archivio Fonico" (Project for the Saving of the Sound Archive) will also converge, as an integrating structure of the Musical archive.
