Como’s Academy of Fine Arts "Aldo Galli" is considered the only institute in Italy specialised in canvas, table and fresco restoration.Founded at the end of the eighties’ it immediately received the recognition of the Ministry for Public Education with a Ministerial Decree.
In over ten years of academic and training activity it permitted young restorers to correctly enter the working world.
Occupational activities are a very important objective that has brought the Academy’s Management to prepare a complete "Training Programme", which develops over four specific areas: Painting, Decoration, Multiethnic Textile Design, Restoration.
Aspects that stand out and lead to the “formation” of students are thus identifiable: creativity in research, scientific approach for procedures, technology in production.
The experiences of mural painting, canvas and table restoration are various, carried out in the context of experimental lab activities.
Among many: restoring of the Nobel Hall at the Como Law University, Carpano’s Hall in the Como Duomo, frescoes and stuccoes in Palazzo Natta in Como, mural paintings in the S.Stefano Protomartire Church in Cesano Maderno.
Various wide-ranging programmes aim to develop the European breadth of the Academy. One of the most important is called Raphael, in collaboration with the Fine Arts department in Valencia, Madrid, Athens, Prague and Abadir.
The "Restoration plan" for the V Chapel of the Madonna del Soccorso Sanctuary in Ossuccio, one of the 17 European projects approved and financed on 459 candidature.
